Snug Valley Farm uses the perfect combination of heritage breeds, including Tamworth, Duroc, Berkshire, and Large Black crosses. These breeds not only do well on pastures, but they also offer up the best tasting meat for our customers. In the winter, their pigs live in one of two winter pig barns that have open-air sides. They use deep bedded pack with first cut hay to keep them warm and allow them to eat grass throughout the winter. Snug Valley Farm never uses antibiotics. They do feed a natural grain and our own hay, supplementing with brewers grain, organic veggies and organic bread, when available.

Snug Valley Farm

For many years, Snug Valley Farmers were successful dairy farmers and Holstein breeders so it was a natural transition for them to use their years of experience to raise natural grass-fed, grass-finished steers for your table.  They have been raising grass-fed steers in Vermont since 1989. Throughout their farming history, starting in 1974, Snug Valley Farm had always raised pigs for family and friends.  Adding pork to their retail offerings started in a small way seven years ago, but they always sold out, much to the disappointment of their friends and customers. Snug Valley Farm expanded their pastured-raised heritage breed pork offerings to meet the growing demands of retail, farmers’ market and wholesale customers.

Snug Valley Farm is committed to providing humane and natural care for our animals, raising them without hormones, stimulants and never feeding animal by-products. Their steers and pigs are raised in an atmosphere of kindness, love and respect. Being good stewards of the land and the environment is part of their philosophy.  They ensure the health of their land with intense rotational grazing to produce the best forage possible. Seeking the most nutritious soil, composting Snug Valley’s manure is a given. They have also embraced wind and solar renewable energy. As of Fall 2018, Snug Valley Farm is completely reliant on renewable energy!

Their dedication to supporting family businesses is also key to our success. Hence, Snug Valley Farm uses family-run farms for their animals, local farm supply stores, graphic designers, printers and hardware stores. This helps keep the Northeast Kingdom a vibrant and growing farming community.
