Produce Package - Variety

$34.64

The best of Vermont's produce in our most popular size, curated weekly for peak seasonality.

This is the regular/standard size Vermont Vegetable Package that we've been offering for years, and the most popular subscription we offer. A great fit for couples, individuals who cooks often, and small families. There will typically be 6 or 7 fruit & vegetable varieties each week, offering the most variety over the course of the season. One person would eat 4-5 servings of vegetables (above the USDA recommended amount) every day for one week with the starter. Two people could eat 4-5 servings of vegetables for 3-4 days, or 2-2.5 servings for one week. Price Per Serving of Vegetables = $1.00

Week of January 24, 2022

Tetuskabuto Squash from Bone Mountain Farm in Bolton, VT. This is a very hardy winter squash with a tough skin that keeps it fresh in long-term storage. It becomes tender and sweet when roasted. Best stored in a cool, dry place and eaten within a month!

Green Cabbage from Intervale Community Farm in Burlington, VT. Cabbage is extremely verstaile and long-lasting. If you’re looking to extend its storage life, we recommend peeling off a leaf at a time to incorporate in dishes, instead of cutting through the center into pieces. Outer leaves act as natural protection from oxygen, keeping the insides crisp and flavorful. Store in the fridge and eat within 1-2 months.

Celeriac from Lewis Creek Farm in Starksboro, VT. This is a non-starchy root vegetable, which means it should be stored just like carrots or beets: in the crisper drawer of your fridge. Though it is a bit overwhelming to look at (for some), the skin can indeed be eaten! Just scrub thoroughly before enjoying raw or cooked. Celeriac will last for 1 month whole and should be eaten within 2 weeks if cut.

Sweet Potatoes from Burnt Rock Farm in Huntington, VT. Sweet potatoes, like regular ol’ potatoes, are best stored in a cool, dry place, like a pantry or low cabinet. If they are exposed to lots of sun or high heat/humidity, they will start to go bad. In proper storage, they will keep for about a month.

Asian Pears from Champlain Orchards in Shoreham, VT (Niitaka or Shinseiki varietals). Asian pears are crispier and firmer than European pears and are sometimes referred to as ‘apple pears’ due to their shape and texture. They will keep for at least a month in your fridge. If you prefer a softer, sweeter pear, leave them out on the counter for a few days to ripen to desired amount.

Shallots from 1000 Stone Farm in Brookfield, VT. These sweet, mild alliums should be stored just like onions: in a well-ventilated, cool, and dry location. (A hanging basket is great for them.) Should they start to sprout, you’ll want to cook and enjoy them right away and find a different location for future storage. They will keep for a month.
